As dog lovers, we want to be with our dogs as long as possible. This is why dog lovers always wish that their dogs remain healthy for the rest of their lives. Dog lovers also feed their dogs with healthy foods so that the dogs will not incur any disease.

This group of scientists is researching the possibility of extending the life span of dogs. For them to achieve this, though, they need at least 10,000 dogs, which they will observe for five years. These scientists dubbed their work as Dog Aging Project, where they will study the likelihood of the life span of dogs to be expanded.

The project is known to be the most extensive study on the complexity of age among dogs. This is because the number of dogs involved in this undertaking is large compared to other studies.

The scientists will begin with their data gathering when dog owners provide their dogs’ records such as gut microbes, DNA samples, and diet information. Aside from these, the owners need to fill out surveys that are required for the sampling. They also need to take their pooches to the veterinarians at least once a year during the five-year experiment.

Marie Bernard, one of the doctors in the team, said that the result of the research would help them come up with suggestions on how to lengthen the life span of dogs. According to Bernard, persons and dogs are living in the same environment, breathing the same air, and somehow eating the same kind of food, but humans live longer. The group wants to shed light on this phenomenon, Bernard added.

For now, Bernard and her team are looking for willing participants in the study. She vowed that all information culled from the data gathering will be deemed confidential, and only the results will be publicized.
