Sixteen years of friendship is something you cannot easily let go, especially when you have built a strong relationship with that person or even a pet. You can also clearly remember all the “firsts” you had with each other. This scenario exactly happened to Colleen, who never knew that she would become very attached to the dog she found in the woods.

Colleen recalled how Eddie would become anxious when he feels that his owner will be away for a while. Eddie made sure that Colleen will tag him along in her travels; he would not even let her out of the door. Those funny acts made their bond so strong and made Colleen appreciate how clingy Eddie is to her.

It’s like in a roller coaster of feelings when Colleen recounts how her dog made her nervous, happy, and sad for anything that Eddie did. By seeing them together, you can see how attached the two are. However, there came a time when Colleen noticed that something is wrong with her dog, and she never knew that this change would cause a big difference in her life.

One day, as Eddie came back after wandering in the forest, Colleen noticed that her dog seemed a bit odd. Eddie showed signs of being afraid, starving, and weak, and Colleen started to look for something she can do to make him feel better. She tried to feed him with his favorite food and comfort him with cuddles but to no avail.

Months went by, and the signs of Eddie’s disease slowly showed. Colleen does not know that this is gradually taking her dog’s life. As the days go by, Eddie became weaker, and sometimes would not want to be with his owner. Soon enough, Colleen found out that Eddie has congestive heart failure.

Then, the day Colleen dreads the most came as she saw Eddie’s lifeless body one morning. She did not know that the night before was the last time she can cuddle and sleep with Eddie. Colleen never wanted to share how bad she felt when she lost her best buddy.

As she dreamt of Eddie one night, she realized that she must let go of all the pain and move on. She knew that Eddie will still have a big part in her heart, and no one can replace it. Now, she decided to release all her sadness and accept that Eddie is gone, with a promise that her love for him remains the same.
