Cali is a two-year-old pedigree who had recently given birth to a massive litter in over 24 hours. Despite the vet’s prediction that she would bear around six, the new mom had a total of twenty. Amber Rees, Cali’s owner, is so proud of her Alapaha blue blood bulldog, who is currently recovering.
During the whole process, Amber, a part-time breeder, stayed awake and looked after her dogs. According to her, it was chaotic, crazy, and fun. Although it was heartwarming to see all the puppies, Amber admitted that it could sometimes test your patience.
The vet told them to expect six or a max of eight puppies when they took Cali for a scan. So, this was the number that Amber had in mind. On Wednesday, Amber noticed that Cali was panting a bit. Then, she started to push. In two minutes, one puppy came out, and the rest just kept coming.
Cali did not appear to slow down even after giving birth to eight puppies. This shocked and, at the same time, delighted Amber. After 12 puppies came out, Cali calmed down a bit. So, Amber took her to the vet. There, the vet injected Cali to help in giving her contractions and push the remaining puppies out.
This was Cali’s first litter, and Amber was so proud of how well she has done. Although Cali was so tired for the next few days, after that, she started to wag her tail and get back to her silly old self. Meanwhile, even if it has only been a week, Amber said that the puppies have already grown so much.
Unfortunately, though, nine of them died, so Amber was only left with eleven puppies. Although this saddened Amber, she noted that they were not expected. Amber said that it surprised the vet that there weren’t more deaths.
Aside from working as a payroll and tax consultant, Amber also runs a company that specializes in rare breeds called Blue Blood Empire. This was Amber’s first liter after becoming a registered breeder. She plans on selling the puppies once they are ready.
